Time for another one shot! We’re talking about one of our absolutely fave films, Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok. As antipodeans, we are particularly delighted by it. We look at the film through the themes of family and memory, and let’s just say those Asgardians have some family issues. We had a lot of fun with this one!
You can find the show notes on the website.
This episode was recorded on 3 July 2021.
Thanks for listening! We'll be back with Season 4 next week - we're reading Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl. Check out the themes here and read along with us.

We couldn’t leave things as they were at the end of Strange the Dreamer! We absolutely devoured Muse of Nightmares and had to debrief - no themes, just feelings. In this novel, Lazlo and the ghost of Sarai unearth more secrets, and work hard to find common ground between the two worlds of humans and gods. Sparrow blooms, Minya unravels, and Thyon gets the redemption arc Draco Malfoy wishes he had!

Thanks for listening! We’ll be pausing our regular programming to do a surprise Festivus special next week - time for the feats of strength! Then, we'll be back with a one shot of Thor: Ragnarok, watching it through the themes of memory and family.
Season 4 will kick off on 6 January - we're reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. We can't wait to share this one with you!

S3 E10 - Wonder (Strange the Dreamer)

It’s our last episode with Strange the Dreamer! We’re very sad about it. We wrap up the book and read this final section through the theme of wonder. The Citadel tips to the side and a girl falls to her death. Lazlo rushes into action, saving Weep, and coming fully into his inheritance as Godspawn and son of Skathis. Minya catches Sarai’s soul, but there are consequences... and that is the end!

Thanks for listening! We'll need to know what happens to these characters so we'll be doing a speedrun of the second half of the duology, Muse of Nightmares - check back in next week!

This week, we're reading chapters 56-62 through the theme of mercy. Things are very rapidly coming to a head. Ruby and Sparrow re-connect. Lazlo and Sarai build dreams together and continue falling in love. Thyon has a lot of questions that he needs answered right away. And Drave ruins everything. We're mad about it!

Wait, what is this?
We're Jenn D and Jen V, and we're are getting up close and personal with our favourite books through a committed practice. Why? Because we want to develop a closer understanding of a text, ourselves, and each other. This is about the magic of storytelling, the power of always being open to learning, and the joy of honouring friendship despite distance, pandemics, and other pesky obstacles. We're learning a lot and we think you will too!
