S3 E2 - Purpose (Strange the Dreamer)
Oct 14, 2021
Oct 14, 2021
49 min
This week we’re reading chapters 7-13 through the theme of purpose. What does it all mean? What is the point? Is there a point? Do you even need a point? (Don’t worry, we only spend about twelve seconds being philosophical before getting to the actual book.)
Lazlo is sad, Thyon is a jerk, and visitors to the city turn Lazlo’s life upside down. We also meet the Godspawn: a group of half-human, half-god children who have been surviving in the Citadel since the day the Godslayer left them for dead.

It's our third season and we are excited! (We really love this podcast, guys. A lot.) This time we're reading Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, and our foundational theme for the book is knowledge.
We started big, reading the prologue through chapter 6 through the theme of expectations. We start with the death of a blue girl, and a city in chaos, and then turn our attention toward the unlikely upbringing of our hero, Lazlo Strange, war orphan.

One Shot - The Fall (Film)
Sep 30, 2021
Sep 30, 2021
54 min
This is our first one shot episode! We’re taking a break in between our seasons to spend some quality time with our favourite pieces of media, to see what we can learn when we treat them as sacred texts. In this episode, we’re reading Tarsem Singh's 2006 film The Fall through the themes of innocence and despair.
Content warning: The Fall is a film that portrays suicide ideation and one suicide attempt on screen (through overdose of morphine pills). If this is too heavy for you, go ahead and skip this one! Look after yourselves.

We're Jenn D and Jen V, and we're are getting up close and personal with our favourite books through a committed practice. Why? Because we want to develop a closer understanding of a text, ourselves, and each other.
